That growth, however, will depend on legal rulings. Ten years from now, people will look back in amazement at these humble beginnings. Any time of the day or night, people jam these fledgling casinos seeking some of that Vegas-style rush. These casinos may be modest now, but they won’t be for long. Steel buildings are the order of the day and so are gravel parking lots. So I spent a day on the road checking them out and discovered two main themes:Ĭompared to Las Vegas, these casinos are not palaces.
This phenomenon is still so new many people don’t know where the casinos are, what they offer or how they differ from each other. What were once strictly bingo halls are now casinos with a little bingo on the side, or no bingo at all. In the past several years, casinos have proliferated on the Indian reservations in the Inland Northwest. Or Ford-bound, or Worley-bound, or Fort Spokane-bound. These days, they merely need to go Chewelah-bound.
Once, in more innocent times, Northwesterners had to go Reno-bound in search of a casino.
